I’m sure we can all agree that the recent “athleisure” trend is absolutely fantastic for so many reasons. Not only does it make life more comfortable (who else has recycled all of their skinny pants with tight waistbands in favour of leggings?), the trend reflects the modern desire for a casual and comfortable lifestyle.
For those of you not familiar with the trend, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:
Athleisure is a trend in fashion in which clothing designed for workouts and other athletic activities is worn in other settings, such as at the workplace, at school, or at other casual or social occasions. Athleisure outfits are yoga pants, tights and leggings that “look like athletic wear” and are characterized as “fashionable, dressed up sweats and exercise clothing”. The idea is that gym clothes are supposedly making their way out of the gym and becoming a larger part of people’s everyday wardrobes. – Wikipedia
When it comes to “athliesure” it is important to remember that wearing your crummy old workout clothes is not part of this trend. The trend started when high-end fashion houses started to incorporate fashion-forward athletic inspired pieces of clothing. Dior created the bejeweled athletic sneaker (click here) and Chanel created the updated trainer (click here).
I will be honest ins saying that I did not immediately jump on the trend. Fast forward a couple of years and I am living in my leggings and bodysuits and am more comfortable than ever and there is no going back.
Once I realized how fantastic the trend was, I decided I had to bring my mom on board (background: we shop together 24/7 and my mom is the type of lady who only wears shoes with a heel). Finding a pair of sneakers for her has been a huge challenge and although the Dior sneakers are beyond adorable, she isn’t the type to drop $1000 + on sneakers (not yet at least ;)).
After much searching, we finally found the most perfect pair of sneakers for her and I wanted to share them with you all as they are currently 50% off at ShopBop with lots of sizes left! Click here for here for her Opening Ceremony sneakers and check out her look from this weekend below:
